Description

Kühling-Gillot’s Rothenberg Grosses Gewächs comes from ungrafted Riesling in the Kapellchen parcel on the Roter Hang. Planted in the nineteen-thirties, the vines occupy a very steep section above the Rhine that remained isolated from vineyard restructuring. The ground consists of porous, weathered clay slate, while the position benefits from morning sunshine and cool descending air currents. Harvesting is manual and selective; spontaneous fermentation is followed by gentle maturation in Stückfass, traditional large wooden casks. The cuvée therefore anchors its identity in these old vines and this particular hillside above the river.
