Description
Arnot-Roberts Trout Gulch Chardonnay comes from a wooded canyon near Aptos in Santa Cruz County, only a few miles from the Pacific Ocean. The vineyard was planted in 1980 with the Wente selection and grows on sandy loam soils. Its cool setting requires slow ripening, with harvest sometimes extending well into autumn. The winery associates this long growing season with the wine's natural acidity and its mineral, saline character. It is a Chardonnay that places the relationship between coastal climate, soil and the tension of the palate at the centre of its identity.
