Description

Les Barres Franc de Pied comes from ungrafted Meunier in one of Chartogne-Taillet's most distinctive parcels. Planted in 1952, the vines send their roots down into the chalky subsoil and give low yields. Alexandre Chartogne works with old barrels and deliberately greater exposure to oxygen, intended to bring out the mineral, saline character of the site. The result ranks among the more powerful expressions in the range. The reference to ungrafted vines therefore describes an actual feature of the vineyard and an essential part of the identity of this individual cuvée.
