Description

Château Mercian’s 2019 Mariko Merlot comes from the estate vineyard on the Jinba plateau in Ueda, in Japan’s Nagano prefecture. Merlot accounts for 91% of the blend, complemented by Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Sauvignon from the same property. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel and wooden vats, followed by around thirteen months in oak. Blackberry, blackcurrant and raspberry combine with compote-like nuances, undergrowth and tobacco. Present acidity and vigorous but fine-grained tannins support the palate, while vanilla and chocolate accompany the finish and reflect the period of barrel maturation.
