Madeirense Crosta Calcária dos Profetas

Information

Description

Crosta Calcária dos Profetas is a white wine from Porto Santo in the Madeira archipelago, tied to a limestone zone in the island’s northern part. Here, the soils have a compact profile and a sandy-loam texture. Old Listrão and Caracol vines are trained close to the ground and protected from wind by reeds and stone walls. Hand harvesting and whole-bunch pressing precede spontaneous fermentation, using stainless steel and wood. The name foregrounds the geology of the site and the winegrowing tradition preserved in these Atlantic parcels and their distinctive low-trained vineyards.
