Description
Domaine Neumeyer's Pinot Gris Chartreux originates on Hahnenberg, the rooster's hill, between Molsheim and Avolsheim. The parcel, formerly owned by Carthusian monks, is distinguished by its steep east-facing slope and Muschelkalk marl-limestone soils. Exposure and gradient encourage ripening while making cultivation demanding. The vines are farmed organically and the grapes harvested by hand. Fermentation uses indigenous yeasts, and the wine rests on its lees in large oak vessels, keeping the identity of this particular site within Alsatian wine-growing at the centre of the cuvée.
