Domaine Zind-Humbrecht's Gewurztraminer Hengst Grand Cru comes from two old parcels at the heart of the vineyard, halfway up the slope. The plantings date from before the Second World War and from 1957. South- and southeast-facing exposure accompanies Oligocene limestone beneath a relatively thin layer of marl. The local climate is warm and dry, encouraging full phenolic ripeness. In the 2012 vintage, the cuvée expresses a broad, concentrated structure in which sweetness integrates with the wine's substantial texture. Hengst's character remains the reference point for this interpretation of the grape variety.
