Zind-Humbrecht’s Riesling Rangen de Thann Clos Saint Urbain comes from southern Alsace, from a Grand Cru overlooking the Thur river. Steep, south-facing slopes rest on volcanic rocks, including tuff and greywacke. Elevation and proximity to the Vosges make this a late-ripening terroir, allowing slow maturation despite its sunny exposure. The estate associates Rangen wines with flinty and smoky notes that accompany Riesling’s mineral character. The wine’s identity is closely tied to this geology and to the distinctive growing conditions of the hillside above Thann.
