Dr. Loosen's Würzgarten Réserve is a dry interpretation of Riesling from this steep Mosel amphitheatre. The vineyard is distinguished by reddish volcanic soils rich in iron, setting it apart from the neighbouring slopes of Erden. Fruit is selected from old, ungrafted vines and harvested by hand. Spontaneous fermentation in traditional fuder casks is followed by extended maturation on the lees and further time in bottle. The Réserve project uses patience to develop balance and deepen the expression of a site that the estate associates with a distinctive spicy and earthy character.
