Clos la Néore is Edmond and Anne Vatan's Sancerre from a small vineyard in the Monts-Damnés sector of Chavignol. Sauvignon Blanc roots into the Kimmeridgian limestone soils of a steep slope demanding considerable manual work. The parcel was replanted with massal selections after the land had been left fallow for an extended period. Anne continued her father's restrained approach, using spontaneous fermentation and maturation in large vessels before bottling. This is a wine closely bound to one place, with the continuity of the family's work as important to its identity as the precise origin of the grapes.
