Egon Müller’s Scharzhofberger Riesling Spätlese comes from the Scharzhofberg in the Saar valley. Slate defines the vineyard, becoming more weathered in its western section, while quartzite is more prominent towards the east. This diversity contributes to the individuality of its parcels. For the Spätlese category, particularly ripe grapes are selected and picked as late as possible in the best sites. Vineyard management emphasises old vines, low yields and attention to the soil. Traditional, restrained winemaking leaves the origin and ripeness of the grapes at the centre of the wine.
