Description

Les Hauts Chardonnays selects the upper part of Mont Benoît, the vineyard central to Emmanuel Brochet's work in Villers-aux-Nœuds. Old Chardonnay vines, planted in 1962 through massal selection, grow in clay and silt above chalk with a southeastern exposure. The cuvée isolates this part of the slope as a vintage Blanc de Blancs. Vertical pressing and spontaneous fermentation precede maturation in used barrels, followed by extended bottle ageing on the lees. Without fining or filtration, the patient process keeps the old vines and their particular position within the hillside at the heart of the wine.
