Description

Fontaine-Gagnard's Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru comes from three Chardonnay parcels facing southeast and southwest. At elevations between 240 and 250 metres, the soils combine Callovian oolitic limestone, clay, silt and a gravel component. Fermentation with indigenous yeasts and maturation in oak follow the estate's approach. The wine has a substantial structure that is reserved in youth; with development it can reveal suggestions of butter, honey and dried fruit. A pronounced mineral character accompanies this profile, with time allowing the richness of the cru to emerge progressively in the bottle.
