Fontaine-Gagnard's La Grande Montagne is a Chassagne-Montrachet Premier Cru made from Chardonnay in the Bois de Chassagne lieu-dit. The vineyard sits high on the slope, below the woodland, with a southeast-facing aspect. Its freely draining soils combine red earth, smaller stones and larger rocks. Fermentation relies on indigenous yeasts, and the wine matures in oak barrels according to the estate's practice. Citrus marks the aromatic profile; the palate shows tension and a lively, harmonious finish. The vineyard's upper-slope position remains a distinctive element of its origin.
