Description

Fontaine-Gagnard's La Romanée is a Chassagne-Montrachet Premier Cru made from Chardonnay grown on a very steep, east-facing slope. The soil is light, rich in fossils and relatively low in stones. The place name preserves the memory of a Roman road passing through the area. Grapes ripen slowly in this vineyard, an element associated with the wine's character. Vinification uses indigenous yeasts and maturation in oak. The profile combines minerality and length, with white-flower aromas that reveal themselves gradually and a palate that retains breadth alongside these qualities.
