Fontaine-Gagnard's Les Chenevottes is a Chardonnay from the Chassagne-Montrachet Premier Cru of that name. The vineyard name preserves the memory of hemp cultivation at this site. The parcel faces southeast and has very red, fairly deep, clay-rich soils with few stones. Fermentation uses indigenous yeasts, and maturation takes place in oak barrels, following the estate's approach. The profile combines a fresh, floral nose with fruit sensations and a savoury character on the palate. The wine's identity remains tied to this small parcel and its particular soil characteristics.
