Description

Fontaine-Gagnard's Morgeot Blanc is made from Chardonnay in the La Grande Borne lieu-dit of this Chassagne-Montrachet Premier Cru. The parcel's name recalls a large accumulation of stones that marked a natural property boundary. The southeast-facing vineyard has shallow, freely draining soil containing small stones. Indigenous-yeast fermentation is followed by maturation in oak. In youth, the wine expresses a reserved mineral character; with time, its palate can reveal greater body and power. Development in bottle progressively brings the substance of this particular Chardonnay into clearer focus.
