Description

Giaconda’s Estate Vineyard Chardonnay originates in Beechworth, at the foothills of northeastern Victoria’s Alps. The vines occupy a cool, south-facing slope more than four hundred metres above sea level. Granitic loam, decomposed gravel and clay shape the soil, while the site encourages slow ripening. Hand-picked grapes are lightly crushed and basket pressed before fermentation with indigenous yeasts in French oak barrels. Maturation continues in the underground cellar excavated from granite. Bottling without filtration completes an approach intended to preserve the vineyard’s character and the individuality of each harvest.
