Heitz Cellar’s 2019 Martha’s Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon comes from western Oakville, on the alluvial fan at the foot of the Mayacamas. The wine is entirely Cabernet Sauvignon, from plant material selected from the original vineyard plantings. The soils combine gravelly, loamy and clay components; organic farming is accompanied by biodynamic practices. In 2019, an even summer and cool, foggy mornings supported ripening, with harvesting in October. The structure combines bright acidity and soft tannins. The vineyard name, separately identified on the label since the nineteen-sixties, marks this cuvée’s historical connection with Oakville.
