Description

Mount Edelstone comes from an Eden Valley Shiraz vineyard planted by Ronald Angas in 1912. Its ungrafted, dry-farmed centenarian vines grow in deep reddish-brown clay and clay-loam soils. Cyril Henschke first bottled the site as a single-vineyard wine in 1952, before purchasing the property in 1974. The name derives from the German Edelstein, meaning gemstone, and recalls the small yellow opals once found in the area. This link with the landscape’s history sits alongside the vineyard’s long association with the Henschke family.
