Description

Mullineux’s Schist Syrah 2023 comes from Roundstone estate on the slopes of Kasteelberg in the Swartland. The schist soils that give the wine its name restrict vine vigour and encourage small bunches with a high proportion of skins to juice. The winery associates this ground with dark fruit, texture and firm tannins. The vines are organically farmed without irrigation. Whole bunches are foot-crushed in the cellar, where spontaneous fermentation and gentle extraction are followed by maturation in French oak. The wine is bottled without filtration.
