Description

La Coulée de Serrant comes from a historic Chenin Blanc vineyard planted by Cistercian monks in the twelfth century and central to Nicolas Joly's work. Its mainly south- and southeast-facing slopes carry a shallow layer of soil above red schist. Biodynamic farming and successive picking passes seek full ripeness, sometimes accompanied by botrytis. In the cellar, spontaneous fermentation and previously used barrels are favoured, limiting the influence of new oak. This is an intense interpretation of Chenin in which colour, texture and complexity are closely linked to grape maturity and to the identity of the vineyard itself.
