Description

Rosso di Ponca is Pascolo’s Merlot selection, originating in a southeast-facing vineyard on the hills of Ruttàrs. Its name recalls the marl-clay soils and layered sandstone that characterise this part of the Collio. The grapes are harvested by hand and macerated in open vats. Maturation includes oak tonneaux, stainless steel and further rest in bottle. Violet, cherry, blackberry and red-fruit jam are accompanied by liquorice and tobacco. Broad and soft on the palate, the wine combines balanced acidity, rounded tannins and a long finish. Beef, game and mature cheeses suit its substantial character.
