Poggio di Sotto’s Brunello di Montalcino comes from Sangiovese grown between 200 and 400 metres, on soils that vary with altitude. Higher sites contain abundant stones and iron minerals, while clay, galestro and silt feature lower down. Vinification uses wooden vats and concrete tanks, with extended maceration and frequent aerated pump-overs. Maturation continues in Slavonian oak casks. This process supports an interpretation of Sangiovese in which tannic texture and freshness underpin complexity, preserving the relationship between the individual vineyard parcels and the wine’s overall character.
