Description

Pira is the Castiglione Falletto vineyard owned entirely by the Roagna family, protected by the Rocche above and woodland below. Its southeastern exposure accompanies layers of limestone, grey and blue marl, and sand, with considerable variation within the site. The Nebbiolo vines originate from massal selections taken from older plants in the vineyard. Indigenous-yeast fermentation, extended submerged-cap maceration and maturation in neutral vessels follow the family's cellar approach. This Barolo therefore expresses a closely defined place where soil diversity and continuity of vine material play central roles in shaping its identity.
