Description
Ronco delle Betulle’s Pignolo is rooted in the hills of Rosazzo, within the Friuli Colli Orientali. The grape’s presence here is documented from the Middle Ages, and its revival began in the 1970s and 1980s with vines preserved around the abbey. The estate’s soils feature ponca, composed of marl, calcareous clay and sandstone. The nearby sea helps moderate the climate, while the hills provide ventilation and protection from cold winds. The resulting red has a substantial tannic framework, a characteristic of Pignolo that is important to its development over time.
