Description

Mezzo Forte is Santomas’s red blend of Refošk, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah, the four dark-skinned varieties grown by the estate in Slovenian Istria. Its vineyard sources include Srgaše, Izola and Hrib, within a landscape of flysch soils containing clay, sand and marl. Grapes are harvested and selected by hand; stainless steel and wood are used for fermentation, while maturation continues in previously used French oak barrels. The cuvée occupies a position between the younger wines and the longer-aged selections, retaining fruit alongside spicy nuances within the estate’s range.
