Shafer’s 2022 Hillside Select is a pure Cabernet Sauvignon from hillside vineyards in Napa Valley’s Stags Leap District. The selection includes estate parcels such as Sunspot, John’s Upper Seven, Venado Ilegal and Firebreak. Small, deeply coloured grapes yield a concentrated wine that matures for twenty-eight months in new French oak barrels. The aromatic profile combines blackberry and plum with toasted notes, coffee, dark chocolate and dried herbs. The structure is rich, with ripe, integrated tannins; freshness accompanies the density of the fruit and supports the wine’s progression across the palate.
