Description

Van Zellers & Co.’s Vintage Port comes from numerous traditional red Douro varieties, hand picked in different vineyards. Grapes are trodden by foot in granite lagares, where fermentation begins. The addition of grape spirit stops the process, retaining some of the natural sugars. Before bottling, the wine rests in large used wooden vessels, without subsequent fining or filtration. This approach preserves substance and structure for development in bottle. The character of the Vintage Port emerges from the combination of local varieties, the individual harvest and traditional cellar practices.
