Van Zellers & Co.’s VZ Douro Red brings together grapes from several Douro plots, where many traditional varieties grow intermingled within the same vineyard. This mosaic includes vineyards in the Torto and Pinhão areas and reflects the local practice of field blending. Harvesting is by hand. Cellar work includes foot treading and fermentation, followed by maturation in French oak. The wine combines fruit, structure and freshness, with present but rounded tannins. Its identity emerges from the diversity of the vineyards and the family’s interpretation of Douro red wine.
