F.X. Pichler’s Kellerberg Grüner Veltliner comes from a steep terraced vineyard in Dürnstein. Gföhl gneiss and loess deposits form the soil, while the southern and southeastern exposure receives morning sunshine. Parts of the slope enter shade during the afternoon, and air from nearby woods provides cooling at night. The name derives from the Kellerschlössl, the Baroque building overlooking the landscape. The wine expresses a spicy, saline character, with suggestions of melon and tropical fruit. Its identity emerges from the meeting of Grüner Veltliner with this particular Wachau environment.
