F.X. Pichler’s Liebenberg Grüner Veltliner originates west of Dürnstein, on south- and southwest-facing terraces supported by dry-stone walls. The vineyard name recalls an earlier landowning family and appears in medieval records. Paragneiss and amphibolite outcrop on the upper slopes; lower down, these materials mingle with lime-rich silty and clayey deposits. This geological diversity accompanies a wine with spicy and saline elements and a dark mineral impression. Bottle development deepens its character while keeping the relationship between Grüner Veltliner and this particular hillside at the centre of the wine.
