F.X. Pichler’s Klostersatz Riesling expresses a level Wachau vineyard west of Oberloiben. Its proximity to the Danube’s broad bend explains the alluvial nature of the soils, formed from fine sand and gravel. The deep profile contains well-rounded stones carried by the river on a long journey from the Alps. Historically associated with monastic winegrowing, the site supports both Riesling and Grüner Veltliner.
