Description

F.X. Pichler’s Rothenhof Sauvignon Blanc Grosse Reserve comes from the eastern Wachau, at the foot of Steinertal near woodland. The vineyard has rocky sand and loess deposits with a calcareous element. Grapes are destemmed and macerated before pressing; fermentation and maturation take place in new and used oak barriques and barrels. Time on the lees includes bâtonnage. The wine combines gooseberry, grapefruit and blackcurrant with a creamy texture, fine acidity and integrated oak, retaining a mineral element and a persistent finish shaped by this cellar approach.
