Description

William Downie's 2019 Gippsland Pinot Noir brings together fruit from Berrys Creek Vineyard and leased sites in Baw Baw Shire. The vineyards share red volcanic soils and are farmed without irrigation. The bunches are sorted by hand; after destemming, whole berries are transferred by gravity into open wooden and stainless-steel vats. Fermentation proceeds without punch-downs or pump-overs, before maturation in French oak. The wine is bottled without fining or filtration, following an approach that places the expression of the harvested fruit and restrained cellar intervention at its centre.
